Yes, you are allowed to indulge, and endlessly stare at the gorgeous and serene waterfront scenery when in Geelong, and I know just the perfect place.
Dropped by Geelong with friends last week on our way to Great Ocean Road. They heard about Sailors’ Rest and thought it’d be the perfect chance to give it a try. Though the price is on the steep side, the large food portions, the quaint and cosy restaurant ambience, and the friendly service staff make up for it. Not to mention, there was a range of amazing looking dessert displayed at the counter! I don’t think you need anymore convincing, do you?
We didn’t opt for outside seating but I can assure you it is an excellent choice on warm spring days – be it to have crazy good times with friends or just relax and enjoy a slow Sunday. Especially if you are into basking in the sun and enjoying beautiful ocean view, you’d definitely fall in love with Sailors’ Rest alfresco dining.
Steep Price But Good Pasta
Food wise, the seafood options are incredible! Thumbs up for the huge Fisherman’s Basket ($26.50). Served with house made tartare, chips and a side of Italian coleslaw, the basket includes Japanese crumbed fish bites, tempura prawns, scored salt & pepper calamari. My personal favourite is the Fettuccine Marinara ($24.50) that’s served with scallops, prawns, local mussels and calamari simmered with garlic and chilli in Sailors’ signature Napoli sauce. Though I would prefer it to be extra spicy, it is just nice for most.
Sailors’ Rest is also known for their delicious Chicken Wrap ($21.50) – a grilled Cajun dusted chicken with lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon and sweet chilli aioli in a toasted pita served with chips. Well, in my opinion it’s mediocre and overpriced though. View the gallery to see them yourself.
Overall, we had a lovely experience at the Modern Australian restaurant. Would come back again but certainly not in the near future.
